Carmichael is a census-designated area and a suburb of Sacramento that earned it the nickname "The secret Little City within the City." It has a total area of 15.57sq mi, of which 15.33 is land, and 0.23sq mi is water. That is, 1.92% of the total area is made up of water.
Carmichael was named after Daniel W. Carmichael. He came to California in 1885, and in 1909 he bought 2,000 acres of land, which was previously a land grant.
