Until the 17th of December, 1984, Loomis was part of unincorporated Placer County. This incorporation was brought about by a vote taken by the residents when the town of Loomis stood the risk of being annexed by its neighboring town, Rocklin. The vote was taken mainly to preserve the city's character, and historical structures, such as the High Hand and Blue Goose Fruit packing shed that was situated between the Union Pacific Railroad track and a segment of Highway 40 called Taylor Road.
