In the United States of America, Placer County, California, is home to the municipal town of Loomis. It is located in Sacramento, Arden–Arcade census-designated Area in California. According to the census completed in the United States in 2010, Loomis, CA population was 6,430. Its neighboring municipalities include Rocklin, Penryn, and Granite Bay, each considered a census-designated place.
The Placer post office began on the site in 1861, which was eventually renamed Smithville in 1862, then Pino in 1869, and Loomis, CA by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1890; because the railroad and the Post Office discovered that people often mistook Pino for the city of Reno, the name was changed to Loomis, CA. Smithville was given its name in recognition of L.G. Smith, considered one of the most influential figures in the history of the community.
