Folsom, CA is named after San Francisco merchant William Alexander Leidesdorff's heirs, Joseph Libbey Folsom. They bought Rancho Rio de Los Americanos and laid out the town of Granite City, which was occupied mainly by gold miners trying to seek their wealth in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
