Folsom, CA can be found in Sacramento County, which is in the United States of America. Folsom Lake, Folsom State Prison, and Johnny Cash's are well-known landmarks. Folsom, CA is named after San Francisco merchant William Alexander Leidesdorff's heirs, Joseph Libbey Folsom. They bought Rancho Rio de Los Americanos and laid out the town of Granite City, which was occupied mainly by gold miners trying to seek their wealth in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

As part of a deal with the state in 1880, the Livermore family donated property to the state in return for jail work. A sawmill was planned to be powered by a hydroelectric dam on the American River.

Folsom Powerhouse, a National Historic Landmark, was built in Folsom when the Livermores recognized the natural force of rushing water might supply enough power to transfer to Sacramento. When it opened, it had the country's longest electrical overhead run (22 miles). Up until 1952, the power plant was still in function.
