Cameron Park is part of the Greater Sacramento Area and is a census-designated place (CDP) in El Dorado County, California. In the 2020 census, the population was estimated at 19,170, up from around 18,230 in 2010. Cameron Park is a town in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California, about 30 miles east of Sacramento and 70 miles west of South Lake Tahoe.
Southern Maidu Indians were the initial Native Americans living in the Cameron Park area. Grinding stone and burial mounds are still evident in and around Cameron Park, providing glimpses into the past.
When Cameron purchased 5,000 acres of foothill land in the 1950s for development reasons, first for ranching, then for houses, a golf course, parks, a lake, and a small airport, modern development advanced in the area. Since then, land has gradually been subdivided into various sizes, including ranch-style houses and medium and high-density residential communities. Ranches, detached homes, condominiums, flats, and enterprises make up Cameron Park today. The Cameron Park CDP contained 7,749 dwelling units as of the 2020 Census.
The CDP has a total area of 11.2 square miles, of which 11.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water, according to the US Census Bureau. Cameron Park is located immediately east of the Central Valley in an interior chaparral or brush zone. The Pine Hill Ecological Reserve is the closest population center. Redbud and manzanita bushes, as well as the brush, are abundant among the native vegetation. Gray pines and oak trees are the most common natural trees, with some small groves of ponderosa pines beginning in the higher elevation zones. Cameron Park is at a height of between 1,200 and 1,450 feet above sea level.

Cameron Park has a population of 19,171 people, according to the 2020 census. The population density per square mile was 1,631.0. Cameron Park has a racial mix of 16,242 people (88.2 percent), 143 white (0.9 percent), 194 African-Americans (1.1 percent), Native Americans made up 425 (2.3 percent), Asians 36 (0.2 percent), Pacific Islanders 36 (0.2 percent), people of other races 461 (2.5 percent), and people of two or more races 727 (4.0 percent). Hispanic or Latino people of any race made up 17% of the population. The age breakdown was as follows: 4.4 percent were under the age of five, 79 percent were over eighteen, and 23 percent were 65 or older. The average age of the participants was 45.3 years. With a margin of error of 260, there were 7,748 dwelling units reported. The stated median income was $79,814, with a $5,265 margin of error.
Cameron Park is addressed in the state legislature by Republican Brian Dahlen in the 1st Senate District and Republican Kevin Kiley in the 6th Assembly District. Cameron Park is in the 4th congressional district of California, represented by Republican Tom McClintock. Locally, a Community Services District (CSD) provides various programs and services, including fire and emergency services, municipal government, CC&R compliance, recreational programming, and park and facility management and upkeep, all of which are sponsored by an established Board of Directors.
