Shingle Springs is a census-designated place (CDP) in El Dorado County CA, United States. The city was formerly known as Shingle Spring and Shingle and there were 4,432 residents in 2010 compared to 2,643 residents in 2000. About 40 miles (64 kilometers) from Sacramento, Shingle Springs is situated on Highway 50 in the Gold Country foothills. The city is less than 15 miles distant from the communities of Placerville and Coloma.
Shingle Springs, CA is included in the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Combined Statistical Area. Shingle Springs, CA is also home to the tribal headquarters of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, a Maidu and Miwok ethnic group recognized by the federal government.
Maidu village Bamom was situated in the region before its settlement by Anglo-Americans. During the California Gold Rush, a group of "49ers" who had traveled the Carson-Emigrant Trail via Pleasant Valley, Nevada, established a mining camp at Shingle Springs, CA, which evolved into the community it is today.
Horse-powered shingle mill capable of generating 16,000 shingles per day was placed near the springs on the western end of the camp and gave it its name. Before the group arrived at Sutter's Fort on September 27, 1849, the Boston-Newton Joint Stock Association stayed there the night before they departed Boston on April 16, 1849.

The population was evenly distributed, with 1,031 people (23.3 percent) under the age of 18, 334 people (7.5 percent) between the ages of 18 and 24, 874 people (19.7 percent) between the ages of 25 and 44, and 625 people (14.1 percent) between the ages of 65 and older. The average age was 44.6 years, and there were 97.7 men for every 100 females in the population. There were 96.4 men for every 100 females aged 18 and above.
Finally, homeowners accounted for 76.7 percent of the 1,248 inhabited units, while 379 renters made up 23.3 percent of the total population. The average density was 208.6 per square mile (80.5/km²), with 1,627 people living in them. The residential vacancy rate was 1.2 percent; the rental vacancy rate was 5.2 percent. There were 3,343 owner-occupied housing units and 1,001 rental housing units for a total population of 7,543 (75.4 percent).
