7 Reasons That Make Shaker Kitchen Cabinets a Remodeling Necessity

It’s been years since you’ve had a kitchen remodel done if the broken cabinet doors and cracked tile is anything to go by. You’ve decided that there is no time like the present and set aside the money to get the job done starting with those broken cabinets.

Why not go with shaker kitchen cabinets this time around? They’ve got a versatile look that will be easy to work around any ideas you have for the rest of the kitchen. They’re also affordable so you’ll have more money to spend in other areas.

These are only two benefits of using them. Keep reading for a complete list of reasons why shaker cabinets are a good idea.

1. They're Not Going Out of Style Anytime Soon

Shaker cabinets are gorgeous in their simplicity. They're made up of a flat panel and raised border. It's eye-catching without being overwhelming.

It's for this reason that it's hard for them to go out of style. They fit in most kitchens from modern to traditional. It's easy to see why they are so sought after in kitchens everywhere.

2. Colors and Stains

Since shaker cabinets aren't too ornate you won't have much trouble painting them whatever color that you want. You can go with white if you want a traditional clean look. White cabinets will also make your kitchen look brighter and larger.

It's a great color if you don't have a lot of natural light coming in. Gray is another good choice. It's a neutral color that goes with about anything.

Other colors that you may want to consider are blue or black. Blue is a calm and elegant color that will go with about anything. Black will bring out all the other colors in your kitchen and it doesn't get dirty as fast.

Shaker cabinets take to stains well too. So, if you like the wood that they are made of you'll be able to bring attention to it.

3. Low Maintenance

Cabinets with a lot of details and ornate patterns look pretty now but that will change in a few months. Getting dirt and grease out of all these small grooves is a nightmare.

All you've got to do is wipe down your shaker cabinets and they'll look like brand new again. It cuts kitchen cleaning time.

4. Good Prices

Due to their simple design, shaker cabinets are pretty easy to manufacture and install in your home. So, buying them won't break the bank like some of your more design-heavy options

Since they are so versatile and won't go out of style anytime soon, you won't have to dip into your piggy bank to buy new cabinets for a long while. This makes them the all-around cheapest cabinet models.

5. They're Available Everywhere

Kitchen remodeling is no easy task. It can be difficult to find what you want in every style that you want. You can cut down some of the stress with shaker style cabinets.

Since they are so sought after, you can find them in a variety of different stores. Not only that, but you can get them in just about any finish that you could dream up.

6. There Are a Variety of Different Finishes Available

Again, there are a lot of different finishes available for shaker cabinets. Burnish, Thermofoil, and Polyurethane are three popular choices.

Burnished Finishing

If you're going with a sort of an aged vintage look for your kitchen then you may want to go with burnished finishing. It's done after the cabinets have been painted. You'll distress the cabinets, sand them down, and then apply the burnishing stain.

The result is a natural shiny look that you'll love. The process isn't as easy as it sounds. You'll want to talk to a professional before you start to get a bit of advice.

Thermofoil Finishing

If you're worried about your cabinets breaking on you, then you can have a Thermofoil finishing put on. It makes the cabinets durable. It also prevents them from staining as easily.

The process involves heavy pressure bonding and heat. It's a pretty new concept making it a little harder to install than other finishes.

Polyurethane Finishing

If you want to accent the natural beauty of your cabinets then you may enjoy a nice polyurethane finish. On top of giving off a gorgeous rustic look, polyurethane will create a durable shell of protection around your shaker cabinets.

The only downside is that the finish needs to be applied in a well-ventilated area and it can take a long time to dry.

7. Increased Resale Value

When you bring a potential buyer into your home to look around, the first thing they are going to look at is the kitchen. So, if you're planning on selling your home at any point, you'll want to go with shaker cabinets.

Again, they are sought after by many and the simple design makes staging easy. It's safe to say that shaker cabinets can up the resale value of your home.
