In 1861, the name of Loomis, California was changed to Smithville by the Placer post office that was opened in the area. Then in 1862, it was again changed it to Pino, and the Southern Pacific Railroad finally arrived in Loomis in 1890. The Post office and the railroad determined that the name of Pino was being confused with the settlement of Reno. As the result Pino was renamed to Loomis. A man named L. Smith was the namesake of the settlement of Smithville Mr. Smith was one of the most prominent leaders in Smithville.
A man named James Loomis was the namesake of the settlement of Loomis. Mr. Loomis seem to run the entire settlement as postmaster, express agent, railroad agent, and saloon keeper at one time. Loomis was the second largest shipper of fruit in the County of Placer during the 1900’s.
Until 1984, Loomis was still a portion of the County of Placer, which was unincorporated. That same year brought the incorporation of Loomis as a town. However, Loomis was running the risk of being annexed by the adjacent community of Rocklin and on order preserve local control partially on the issue of preserving the historic structures that included the Blue Goose fruit packing buildings that is located between the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and Taylor Road, voted to incorporate.
In 1852, the settlement got its start when the Wells Fargo and Company was established during the days of the gold rush in California. The company gained control of the operation over the western half of the Pony Express, a few years later and the company started shipping packages between the American West and East coasts.
The Cleary Creek Commercial Company was established by a man named Lee Loomis in 1905. Mr. Loomis supplied Alaskan miners with daily equipment and commodities by using a dog sled and returned with gold. Some 20 years later Mr. Loomis established the Loomis Armored Car Service. Mr. Loomis he placed into operation and produced one of the first custom made a vehicle to transport secure armored valuables at an expense of some $8,000, which sometime later became known later as Old Number One. The Loomis family elected to sell the Loomis Corporation in 1979. Some turbulent years followed and the Loomis Corporation underwent some major takeovers, acquisitions, and changes. The company purchased Wells Fargo Armored during the late 1990’s. This new company became Loomis, Fargo and Company.
Securitas purchased the Loomis, Fargo and Company and merged it into the division Securitas Cash Handling Services in 2001. Then, Securitas announced its intention to divide the business into specialized, separate security companies in 2006. The name Loomis was then assumed by the Securitas Cash Handling Services.
In 2008, it was decided to distribute all of the Loomis shares among shareholders of Securitas at an extra meeting of the shareholders. Then having this connection, the Loomis board requested to be listed on the Stockholm OMX Nordic Exchange. Ever since 2008, the company has been listed on this exchange.
From 2010 through 2011, Loomis continues its expansion internationally after establishing a subsidiary in Slovakia in 2009. It isn’t an easy task to route a state highway through the County of Placer, as chronicled in Lincoln Highway: The Route through Newcastle, Ophir, Penryn, and Loomis. When the automobile was only beginning to become popular during the 1900’s, Taylor Road was only a wagon road. However, there was a thrust to construct transcontinental highway, in 1912, known as the Lincoln Highway that would connect the West and East coasts.
The residents of the County of Placer At the same time, successfully compelled the state representatives to construct a state highway between Lake Tahoe and Sacramento. They also petitioned for the Lincoln Highway to be added to the state highway through the county.
