Loomis is a town based in placer County California. Loomis has a total of 6,430 people residing in Loomis as of a 2010 statistics report. Loomis shares its borders with Rocklin, Granite Bay, and Penryn.

Loomis was first known as a Placer post office during the year 1861. The name was later readjusted to Smithville in the year 1862. The confusion between the railroad and post office of Pino and Reno then led to Loomis's name being changed again.

The name Loomis stems from the name of a pioneer who had entered the town. His name was James Loomis. James has a list of accomplishments that he had acquired in living in Loomis. James had been a saloon keeper, an express agent, a railroad agent, and even staffed the post office at times.
