Not every cabinet can be refinished. We look first, then tell you which path actually makes sense for your Antelope kitchen.
Tell us a little about it. We’ll follow up within one business day.
Guiding Antelope homeowners through remodels with clarity.
It's a different service with different rules, and depending on what your cabinets are made of, it may not be possible at all. The worry we hear most isn't about color; it's “will I pay for something that won't hold up?” That's exactly what an inspection answers before you spend anything.
Solid handles refinishing and refacing with the same contractor that builds full kitchens, so when we say “this cabinet will take a finish” or “this one won't,” it comes from people who build cabinetry for a living.
You get a straight answer at your home, a clear quote for the right path, and a sprayed, factory-smooth result on the cabinets that qualify.
Refinish, reface or replace: recommended for your cabinets, not our margin.
Modern finish systems applied correctly over properly prepped surfaces.
Without the cost or disruption of a full remodel, when your cabinets qualify.
Cabinet refinishing is not a cheaper version of a kitchen remodel. It's a different service with different rules. Depending on what your cabinets are made of, one of these three paths is the right answer. We'll tell you which one, honestly, after we've seen them.
Your boxes and doors stay. We prep the existing surfaces and repaint or refinish them in a new color.
Not always possible: veneered surfaces can't be sanded or painted without peeling.
We remove the doors and drawer fronts, fit brand-new ones, and refinish the visible boxes. Framed boxes get refinished faces; frameless boxes often need nothing at all.
Why it's common: refacing sidesteps most of the surface problems that rule refinishing out.
Some cabinets are simply too old, too worn or built from materials that can't take a new finish. Then replacement is the honest recommendation, not the upsell.
The candid part: a proper refinish quote surprises many homeowners. Sometimes replacement is the better spend.
| At a glance | Refinish | Reface | Replace |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical cost in Antelope | $3,800–$6,900 | $8,400–$14,500 | $16,500–$31,000 |
| Time on site | 1–2 weeks | 2–3 weeks | 4–6 weeks, phased |
| What changes | Color and finish | Doors, fronts and hardware | Everything, including layout |
| Right when | Solid wood, sound boxes | Boxes are good, doors are dated | Veneer, damage, or a layout that fights you |
| Watch-out | Veneer and thermofoil can’t take it | Framed boxes still need the faces refinished | Has to be coordinated with countertops |
A large share of cabinets can't be refinished at all, and there's no way to know from a phone call. It depends on what your cabinets are made of and how they were finished the first time:
That's why the first real step isn't picking a color, it's a free in-home cabinet assessment where we tell you which of the three paths actually fits.
Fifteen minutes in your kitchen, and you'll know which path fits and what it costs.
Same kitchen, same week on site, two completely different crafts. One re-finishes what you already own; the other replaces the parts you see and keeps the parts you don't.
Process A
We inspect the material and existing finish to confirm refinishing is actually viable.
Kitchen masked off; doors and hardware removed and labeled.
Old finish scuffed, or stripped to bare wood where old oil-based finishes require it.
Surfaces primed and sprayed in the new color for a factory-smooth result.
Doors rehung, hardware set, alignment tuned, site cleaned.
Process B
Every opening measured; new doors and drawer fronts specified to fit.
New fronts ordered in the style and finish you choose.
Doors and drawer fronts come off; boxes stay right where they are.
Framed boxes get faces refinished to match. Frameless boxes usually need nothing.
New fronts hung, hinges and gaps tuned door by door.
Which path fits your cabinets?
We can only tell you which of these your cabinets can actually take by looking at them. The assessment is free, in your Antelope home, and ends with a straight answer, including “replace” when that's the honest one.
Refinishing is priced by how many doors, drawers and boxes you have, and by what they're made of. Some cabinets can't be refinished at all, which is why we look before we quote.

01
Veneer and thermofoil can’t be sanded and repainted. That answer changes the whole quote.
02
Refinishing is priced per piece, not per kitchen.
03
Old lacquers and heavy grease need stripping before anything new goes on.
04
Sprayed conversion finishes cost more than brushed paint, and last longer.
05
New hinges, pulls, soft-close and organizers are added on top.

The starting point
Every project follows this path. Yours starts with a conversation.
Most Antelope kitchens we assess have 1990s solid-maple doors on sound boxes, which usually points to refinishing.
The honey-oak doors Antelope's 1990s kitchens came with take a sprayed finish beautifully, when the surfaces pass our assessment.
Doors off, sprayed finish on, rehung. One to two weeks, and the kitchen stays usable for most of it.
Degrease, repair, and a finish system that outlasts brushed paint.
Soft-close hinges, new pulls and drawer organizers, on top of whichever path you take.
This is a great opportunity not only to feel the materials, but also to get an idea or some inspiration.
You have probably seen most of it on a screen. Every cabinet, countertop, tile, and fixture Solid Construction & Design works with is there to touch and compare.

Straight answers on what can be refinished, what refacing actually changes, and what a cabinet quote in Antelope covers.
No, and this surprises people. Veneered surfaces can't be sanded or painted without peeling, some older finishes must be stripped to bare wood, and some cabinets are simply too old for it to be worth it. It's case-by-case, which is why we inspect first.
Refinishing keeps your doors and repaints them. Refacing replaces the doors and drawer fronts entirely and refinishes the visible boxes. We actually redo more kitchens by refacing than refinishing.
Because the material and the old finish decide everything, including whether refinishing is possible at all. A photo can't tell us; ten minutes in your kitchen can.
No. It's a different scope entirely: surfaces only, no layout, plumbing or counters. When homeowners expect remodel results at refinish prices, someone hasn't been straight with them.
Cabinet work in Antelope is priced by the linear foot of cabinetry, and which of the three paths you take sets the band: refinishing runs about $150–$275 per linear foot, refacing $335–$580, and full replacement $660–$1,240. For a typical 25-linear-foot kitchen that is roughly $3,800–$6,900 to refinish, $8,400–$14,500 to reface and $16,500–$31,000 to replace. Use the calculator above for a range on your own kitchen; we quote from a fixed scope after the in-home assessment.
Completely free, with no obligation. We'll visit your home, talk through your goals and budget, and follow up with clear next steps.
Whether the boxes stay is the first question, and it decides the budget. These are the other two answers, priced honestly against each other rather than sold past you.
When the boxes have to go
Hardwood frames and doors, dovetailed drawer boxes, soft-close hardware, sized to your walls rather than to a catalogue.
If the layout is the problem
Layout, cabinetry, counters and lighting handled as one scope, including the beam and the permit when a wall comes out.
Usually done at the same time
Quartz, granite and quartzite, templated on site the week the cabinets go in, so the tops land days later instead of weeks. Seams placed where you will not see them.
