About West Sacramento

West Sacramento is a big city that is located in Yolo County. West Sacramento is a modern city boasting rapid growth of businesses and population having its population stand at 48,744 as of a 2010 statistics report. The total land coverage is 21.47 square miles and 1.33 square miles of water. The area codes of West Sacramento are 916 and 279.

Since the Gold Rush era, the traditional industrial center of the region, West Sacramento is home to a diverse economy. Almost every business that had started in West Sacramento had succeeded. This included the gold mining industry as well as the agricultural companies. Agriculture was a lucrative market for those who were interested and willing to take on manual labor.

In 1844, a traveler of Flemish descent named John Schwarts had found the area of land where West Sacramento is. John had decided to set up a temporary resident by building a shack on the Sacramento Riverbank.

It didn't take long for John and a few other settlers to realize that this particular area would be a gold mine for agriculture. Not only was the soil and earth good for growing crops, the river housed fish that could be caught and sold to the public. This is where the business began. West Sacramento was to become the next booming district. When the announcement that gold had been struck at Sutter's Mill in 1848, West Sacramento was prepared with its already developed facilities and transportation. It was also found that the farmlands were big enough to house livestock as well.

This family had moved to West Sacramento to starting a new career with the resources made available.
