About Granite Bay

Granite Bay is a Census-Designated-Place in Placer County. It is located east of Roseville and west of Folsom Lake. It occupies a total of 56km2 of which 0.11km2 is water. The community was officially recognized as Granite Bay in 1987. The area was called Granite Bay because of the granite rock quarried from its banks. Neighboring cities include Rocklin, Folsom, Roseville, Orangevale, Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks, Auburn, Foothill Farms, Lincoln, Cameron Park, North Highlands, North Auburn, Carmichael, Rancho Cordova, and Rio Linda. The center of each named city is within 16 miles of Granite Bay. The city has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate which characterizes many of the cities in California. Based on the tourism score, the best time to visit Granite Bay is from mid-June to late September.

As of 2020, the population of Granite Bay was 23,183, an increase of 13.63% since the 2010 census. The average household income in the city is $200,787 with a poverty rate of 3.46%, all of which are indicators of a better economic situation than the national average. Granite Bay has a long history dating back to the Gold Rush. In its’ beginnings, it was first called Granite Bar but was later changed to Granite Bay for the granite available for construction of the Folsom Dam. The area began to draw miners between 1852 and 1954 as a result of the planted olive and almond plantations. Auburn-Folsom Road is one of Granite Bay's principal roads.
