About Fair Oaks

Fair Oaks is a town in Sacramento County. It is a Census Designated Place which means that its boundaries have no legal status, however, these boundaries are mapped based on the geographical extent associated with how the inhabitants regularly use the named place. The origin of the name Fair Oaks is not quite known; however, the most obvious reason is that the hilly land was largely made up of an oak forest. Another version claims that when General Charles Henry laid his eyes on the land it reminded him of the terrain of Fair Oaks, Virginia and so he named the place after it.

The town of Fair Oaks occupies a total area of 29.12km2 with 1.17km2 being water. The town has an elevation of 174 feet. Fair Oaks has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and wet, mild winters. The towns neighboring Fair Oaks in California are Orangevale, Carmichael, Foothill Farms, Rancho Cordova, Citrus Heights, Folsom, North Highlands, La Riviera, Roseville, Rosemont, Rio Linda, Rocklin, Florin, Sacramento, and West Sacramento. The centers of all the cities mentioned are within 15 miles of Fair Oaks.

Fair Oaks is a Census Designated Place that does not have a legally defined boundary or an active functioning governmental structure.
